Egyptian international Ayman Abdul Aziz was the key figure in causing riots in the Turkish league match between his side, Trabzonspor, and Sivaspor. Fans of Trabzonspor invaded the pitch in the season opener against Sivaspor, forcing the referee to abandon the game. A fight between players in the injury time fueled the controversy, as a number of the home fans stormed into the pitch trying to attack Sivas' players just five minutes after Trabzon took the lead. Egyptian international Abdul-Aziz was pivotal in both the beautiful and ugly sides of the game. He set up Ersen Martin to score the only goal then made a fierce tackle on an opponent to ignite the brawl. Abdul-Aziz harshly tackled Sivas' Israeli striker Pini Balili, only for Balili's teammate Musa Aydin to engage with the Egyptian midfielder. The referee booked both players. A Trabzon player tried to block the resulting free kick as both team’s players started pushing and shoving before a home fan broke into the ground and attacked Sivas' Mohamed Yildiz. Dozens followed the invader, leaving no choice for referee Bulent Demirlek but to call the game off. A decision will be made by the Turkish Football Association regarding the final result of the game, which is likely to be in Sivas' favor.
